●Appearance: Colorless or white crystalline solid, typically in lump or powder form.
●Solubility: Highly soluble in water (~15 g/100 mL at 20°C); aqueous solution is weakly acidic (pH ≈ 3–4).
●Melting Point: ~93.5°C (loses water of crystallization); decomposes at higher temperatures to form aluminum oxide, sulfur trioxide, etc.
●Density: ~1.64 g/cm³.
Chemical Properties
●Hydrolysis: In aqueous solution, hydrolyzes to form Al(OH)₃ colloids with strong adsorption capacity.
●Astringency: Reacts with proteins to form precipitates, used for wound contraction or leather tanning.
●Stability: Fully dehydrates above 200°C to yield anhydrous ammonium aluminum sulfate.
Application of Aluminum Ammonium Sulfate
Water purification
As a water purifier, aluminum ammonium sulfate mainly adsorbs suspended particles and impurities in water through hydrolysis to generate aluminum hydroxide colloid, thereby achieving the purpose of purifying water quality.
